Fishkill Baptist Nursery School has been serving the local community for over 30 years.  Our ministry combines affordable early childhood academics with spiritual education in a nurturing, supportive, and structured atmosphere.  Through Bible stories, weekly Chapel times, and teaching the children to pray, FBNS plants seeds in the hearts of our students.  The program includes:

Three-Year-Old Classes
Three-year olds meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The focus of the curriculum at this age is lengthening the children’s attention span through group activities and individual tasks, encouraging the children’s language development, and developing social skills via small group play and activities.  Children learn to complete fine motor tasks, cooperate with classmates, and grow accustomed to a classroom routine.

Four-Year-Old Classes
Four-year olds meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Early math, science, and social studies skills, phonics, letter recognition, language skills, and fine motor skills are all incorporated into the curriculum.  Multi-sensory, hands-on learning is the way children are taught in a fun, yet structured environment.  Field trips and opportunities for parent involvement are additional features of this program.

Bridge to Kindergarten
The Bridge is a highly-regarded alternative to sending a child with a fall birthday to kindergarten.  In this era of increased demands in kindergarten, children who will be the youngest in their class are at a clear disadvantage.  This “bonus year” is a gift which allows children to have extra time to mature, to increase their level of independence, and to acquire the necessary skills for kindergarten.  The Handwriting Without Tears curriculum is used to assist children to learn writing, increase phonemic awareness, and prepare them for reading and writing.  The WordTime language curriculum improves children’s expressive language skills and social communication.  Students spend the majority of their time each day working in small groups to complete educational and fine motor tasks.  Sign language instruction and field trips are a great supplement to the educational experience.

Parent/Child Playgroup
The Mommy and Me playgroup meets once per week for a time of play and learning.  Toddlers and their caregivers participate in fun activities, free play, arts and crafts, snack, circle time, and gross motor play.  It’s also a great way for parents to meet other local parents!
